History of Domburg
Domburg is the oldest seaside resort in Zeeland, since 1834 people have been taking a cure in the sea. In the past, people came for the healing effect of the seawater and drove into the water in bathing carriages.
Thanks to the arrival of Dr. Metzger (the world's first physiotherapist), the European nobility came to Domburg around 1900 to take a cure, including Queen Elisabeth of Romania and the Russian royal family came to Domburg for his treatments and a sea cure.
In the wake of the nobility came the painters. Did you know that Piet Mondriaan started his impressionistic work in Domburg, for which he would become famous during his time in New York?
